Australian Bulk Alliance (ABA) was formed to provide discerning grain growers an alternative in grain handling and supply chain services in the eastern states grain markets. The company focuses on delivering benefits to customers, continually improving service levels, and enhancing returns to shareholders.

ABA is a joint venture company of agribusiness viterra.com.au and Japanese trading house Sumitomo.

Originally formed by Grainco Australia Ltd and AusBulk Ltd in July 1999, Grainco’s interest in ABA passed to GrainCorp Ltd following the merger of the two companies in October 2003. In September 2004, AusBulk’s 50 per cent stake was taken on by ABB Grain Ltd after the merger of ABB, AusBulk and United Grower Holdings. And in November 2004 major Japanese trading house, Sumitomo acquired GrainCorp’s 50% stake in the company. In September 2009 Viterra combined operations with ABB Grain Ltd.
